NEW Warrington Wolves’ women’s head coach Armani Sharrock believes the attitude of her players is a ‘million miles’ away from where they finished Super League last season – after just one training session.
A delighted Sharrock welcomed almost 40 girls to the team’s Padgate training camp last Tuesday, with existing members of the squad being joined by recent signings Grace Burnett and Anna Dennis, as well as a number of triallists.
Sharrock, who was unveiled as Lee Westwood’s replacement last month, now has just a few weeks to build them into a close-knit group before finalising her first squad.
She said: “It’s amazing to be back in training and there is a real buzz about the place – I am excited.
“The energy and intensity has been fantastic. There have been girls here who don’t know each other but have worked for one another and shown great skill levels.
“We are a million miles from where we finished last year. Our intent wasn’t great and we fell off both on and off the field towards the end.
“Tonight, everyone brought a new level of intensity and that’s fantastic.”
And her excitement has been shared by Ryan Cartledge, head of women’s rugby, who believes Sharrock is the perfect choice for the role.
He said: “Armani has brought a lot of energy and is really enthusiastic.
“She is a great leader and has been captain and coach here for the past two years.
“She had great values in how she conducted herself as a player and that is showing through as coach.
“I’m really excited for the new season to start and we have got a great opportunity to push forward in Super League.”
